Scotland is internationally recognised as the most important UK financial centre outside London and the South East. This course is designed to equip you with skills and knowledge that will enhance your employment prospects in a wide variety of opportunities within the financial services industry.
You will have the chance to interact with industry partners from across the sector. You’ll gain real-world experience through a series of guest speakers, site visits and workshops.    Â
You will examine the structures, products and services of the main financial services providers, become familiar with key terminology, and consider the impact the sector has on society. You will gain an appreciation of how the sector is regulated, considering consumer protection, data protection and money laundering regulations.
This course will enable you to develop your employability skills. As well as investigating the types and range of career opportunities within the sector, you’ll develop transferable customer service skills, learning to assess and respond to the needs of others.
You’ll also develop personal finance skills. You will learn how to create and maintain a personal budget, consider the issues surrounding borrowing and debt, and explore the concepts of paying and receiving interest.
Entry Requirements
This course would suit organised, logical and detail orientated students who have achieved at least two National 4 STEM qualification and are working towards National 5’s in at least two other subjects. Â
Progression Pathways
National 5 Financial Services is an ideal first qualification on a path through to HNC & HND to degree level qualifications in universities across Scotland.
Modern Apprenticeships are also available in the Financial Services Sector.

Employment Prospects
The Financial Services sector currently employs approximately 157,000 people in Scotland and is expected to continue to grow with a number of large employers situated in Glasgow.  This course prepares you for a variety of job roles by developing key employment skills such as customer care.
With further study, students can move into a variety of occupations including insurance, banking and business.
