Libby
Libby came to City as a student on our Up in the Air and On the Ground course in the Faculty of Hospitality & Leisure. After completing her studies at Cleveden Secondary School, she returned to City for full time study on the HNC Travel & Tourism course. That same year she participated in an Employability course through the Erasmus programme as well as studying Mandarin with the Confucius Institute. Libby progressed on to the HND Travel & Tourism course. While at City, Libby received support with her literacy from Student Services staff. Next year Libby is hoping to attend the University of the Highlands and Islands to study Adventure Tourism Management. Libby said about her time at City: “Coming to study at City opened the path for me to find out what I’m passionate about and has provided me with more job opportunities.”
Aiden
Aiden has had a long and positive working relationship with City and our staff. While at Cardinal Winning Secondary School, Aiden completed two Senior Phase courses with us in the Faculty of Hospitality & Leisure – NPA Cookery and Up in the Air and On the Ground. After leaving school, he came to City full time and studied on: Access to Events & Hospitality, NQ Events Organisation and NQ Events. During his Access course, Aiden trained for participation in the World Skills Catering competition. He has now applied to go into Professional Cookery. Aiden was supported in his studies by a Learning Support Lecturer and an Education Support Worker. His lecturer says that Aiden’s confidence has grown immensely during his time at City. After his studies Aiden hopes to be a chef. Aiden said “All the Lecturers are friendly and support is available from Student Services if you ask. City has helped my journey and increased my confidence.
Ewan
Ewan has always known that he wants to pursue a career in Business. Having completed his Higher in Business Management at Williamwood High School, he undertook a Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills (2020-21) at City in order to further his knowledge and gain practical real world experience. Meeting twice a week with his assessor, Ewan was able to set goals for his future and discuss any concerns or queries he had. Ewan had a placement at the Glasgow Science Centre and was nominated for the Young Scot Enhancing Education award. He has an unconditional offer for his first choice University (2021-22). Ewan said he “really enjoyed the practical aspect of the FA, which let me explore the working world and helped prepare me for my next steps.”
Evan
Evan came to City from Kirkintilloch High School to study on our NPA Legal Services (2019-20) course. After earning Higher English, History, Modern Studies, Drama and Psychology qualifications at school, he then progressed to City for full time study on our HND Legal Services (2020-22) course in the Faculty of Education & Humanities. Evan has flourished at City where he is a class representative and founded a Politics Society in the Students’ Association. After his studies Evan plans to attend The University of Glasgow to study Law (2022). Evan said of his learner journey at City: “Doing my NPA at City opened so many doors for me. It got me comfortable with the college environment and it helped me get to know lecturers and other staff well. If I hadn't done my NPA while I was still at school, I don't think I would've progressed onto to my HND. The college is an amazing place filled with amazing people."
Carolyn
Carolyn was a student on City’s National 5 Financial Services (2016-17) Senior Phase course in the Faculty of Education & Humanities. Upon completion of her Higher and National 5 qualifications at Stonelaw High School, she returned to City full time on our HNC Financial Services (2017-18) course where she received an A for her Graded Unit. Carolyn progressed to the HND Financial Services (2018-19) where she again received an A for her Graded Unit. At Graduation she received the Principal’s Prize. Carolyn is now studying Finance and Risk at Glasgow Caledonian University (2020-21). Carolyn said that studying at City on a Senior Phase course meant “I already knew my lecturers and felt comfortable with studying in a college environment.”
Kacper
Kacper studied at Holyrood Secondary School and came to City on a Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering (2017-18) in the Faculty of Nautical & STEM. He progressed onto full time study at City on our HNC Cyber Security course (2018-19) and then onto our HND Computer Networking and Internet Technology (2020-22). After he completes his course, Kacper plans to progress to a Modern Apprenticeship in Networking (2022-23) and gain employment in that field. Kacper said starting on a Foundation Apprenticeship at City “let me explore different subjects and helped me to decide on my future career.”
