Overview

Please Note - this is a school college partnership course for school pupils in their S4-S6.

Develop an understanding of how children develop, learn, and play with our Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services: Children and Young People. 

You will:

  • Gain insights into how children grow, learn, and play, fostering a deeper understanding.
  • Earn a part of the SVQ qualification while gaining hands-on experience during your work placement.
  • Explore various perspectives on child development, the importance of play, and effective communication methods with children and young people.
  • Learn to identify and overcome communication barriers while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children.
  • Delve into the adult's role in safeguarding children, recognizing different risks, harms, and signs of exploitation.

Our student-centred approach empowers you to take charge of your learning journey, fostering critical thinking skills. Plus, you'll develop your practical skills by completing a work placement with a local employer.

Attendance Pattern

  • Tuesday and Thursday (9.30am – 4pm).

You will spend one full day in college and one full day on work placement.

Minimum entry requirements

This course would suit caring, considerate and compassionate students with a genuine desire to work in the childcare sector. 

  • You must have achieved National 5 English and can work towards a Higher qualification.
  • Due to the nature of the work placement students will be subject to a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check.

How the course is taught

This course benefits from a blend of classroom and work-based learning.

This will include project work, lecturer tutorials and group tasks. You will develop and apply your learning in practice with an employer during your work placement.
