Please Note:  This is a school college partnership course.  We can only accept online applications from Secondary School pupils in their Senior Phase.  

Start your journey towards a fulfilling career in the social care sector with our Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services and Healthcare!

Discover the ins and outs of social services provision in Scotland, gaining valuable insights into human development stages and social influences.

Develop effective communication in social services settings, a crucial skill for making a positive impact.

Explore safeguarding practices, learning to identify various risks and harms while finding ways to prevent the need for safeguarding interventions.

Alongside your academic study you will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement with a local employer enabling you to achieve part of the SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare qualification.

Attendance Pattern

  • Year 1: Tuesday and Thursday (1.30pm – 4pm).
  • Year 2: Thursday (9.30am – 4pm).

The work placement element of this course will take place during your second year.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

This course would suit caring, considerate, and compassionate students with a genuine desire to work in the health and social care sector.

You must have achieved National 5 English and are able to work towards a Higher qualification.

Due to the nature of the work placement, students will be subject to Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) registration.

After the course

Careers

There are many different career opportunities and career pathways across this range of settings and possibilities for entry at several levels. Job roles in adult services include personal assistant, care assistant, support worker, supervisor, senior care worker, team leader, care home manager, centre manager and service manager. 

Accelerated entry onto a Modern Apprecnticeship in Social Services and Healthcare.

Continuing Study 

Successful completion of this Foundation Apprenticeship allows you access to a varied progression path.  You can undertake an HNC in Social Services, Healthcare Practice or Childhood practice.  You can also progress into a diverse range of University degrees.

Teaching

How the course is taught

This course benefits from a blend of classroom and work-based learning.

This will include project work, lecturer tutorials and group tasks. You will develop and apply your learning in practice with an employer during your work placement. 

Assessment methods

The course is assessed using a range of approaches including case studies, investigations, presentations and the submission of written work.
