LEARNING & TEACHING CONFERENCE 2023

The Learning and Teaching conference took place at our City Campus with over 300 delegates attending. We welcomed attendees from a range of institutions, including Ayrshire College, NESCOL, Forth Valley College, Clyde College, RCS, Aberdeen University, CDN, QAA, Education Scotland, NHS Education, GCU, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and internationally from Häme University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

The conference featured 21 workshop presentations across three elective sessions. Many of these workshops were conducted by City of Glasgow College lecturers, who showcased how they are transforming learning and teaching through a blended approach within their respective disciplines over the last academic year. It was excellent to see every Faculty represented, as well as a good turn out from our Students’ Association.

Our keynote speaker Donald Clark, a world authority on learning design and the use of technology in education, set the tone early in the conference saying:

"This is a profound moment in learning. AI will change why we learn, what we learn and how we learn. It is not the enemy to education. It’s transforming our learning and teaching back to dialogue."

His inspirational address challenged the audience to think about the many possibilities of Artificial Intelligence in education and urging us to embrace it, rather than limit its use. You can watch Donald's speech on our YouTube Channel.

The event was supported by a number of sponsors including Browns Books, Ellisons, eCom, Trophy Centre, QDP, Turnitin, We Love Coffee and Broadcast Radio who exhibited at the conference. Our headline sponsor, eCom, hosted a workshop looking into how VR can provide innovative solutions to teaching and assessment challenges.

The conference was part of our Faculty Learning Week, a week-long series of activities to support faculties in thinking about learning design and shaping courses for a two semester academic year. We look forward to welcoming delegates back to our conference next year.
