Learning and Teaching Conference 2025
The Learning & Teaching Conference on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, was a great success, bringing together educators, students, alumni, and industry professionals to explore the future of education and student success.
We were delighted to welcome Dr. Emily McIntosh, Director of Student Success at the University of the West of Scotland, as our keynote speaker. Her presentation, Going Tertiary: A New Frontier for Student Success in Scotland, provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping student success.
The breakout sessions were a highlight of the day, covering a variety of themes and workshops. Attendees explored topics like learner support, priority groups, productivity strategies, and practitioner development, including lecturer pathways and innovative teaching methods like âCEP-tacular.â Discussions also focused on inclusion, accessibility, universal design, industry engagement, and impactful teaching. Other key sessions covered trauma-informed practices, AI in education, and using vulnerability for curriculum innovationâoffering valuable insights for educators.
The afternoon focused on student experiences, featuring a panel discussion with past and present City Student Association presidents on student leadership. This was followed by an energetic performance by HNC/D Acting and Performance students, featuring Unwritten and Donât Stop Believinâ.
The event concluded with an inspiring alumni panel, hosted by Media & Communications students Viktoriia Hunko and Scott Smith. College alumni Diane Scott: Sports and Fitness, Josh Kerr: Hospitality, Ewan Denny: TV and Film, and Holly MacMillan: Construction shared how their time at the college shaped their careers. HN Television students also played a key role, expertly handling filming, audio, and lighting throughout the day.
