Joinery
Joiners work with timber to construct doors, windows, fitted furniture and other permanent fixtures within buildings. They will often prepare items in a workshop before going to the site to install the completed items.
Competition Overview
This competition has been designed to reflect the role of a joiner and the standards that are expected within the construction industry. At the competition you will have to demonstrate the following skills:
- Drawing and setting out
- Marking onto timber and sheet material
- Cutting a variety of joints to a high standard of accuracy. This could include the use of hand or table routers
- Assembling, checking for square, dismantling, reassembling and gluing
- Planning to achieve an accurate fit and a high quality of finished product
- Keeping the work area clean and tidy
- Working in a safe manner.
