Winterfest 2023 featuring Albert Watson

Now in its seventh year City of Glasgow Photography departments, recent “Winterfest” event was a huge success with talks delivered by national and international participants including legendary photographer Albert Watson. 

This year saw a collaboration between West College Scotland, Kelvin College, NESCOL and Dumfries and Galloway College to engage and recruit a range of photographers to speak at this event which was also supported by Canon and our friends at Street Level Photo Works. 

Speakers included photographers Margaret Mitchell, Mark Mann, Peter Holliday, Eliska Sky, Malcolm Dickson, Nick Dunmur, Simon Murphy, Marilena Vlachopoulou, Alan McFettridge, Jay Brooks and Sophie Basilevitch who showcased talent from a range of disciplines and companies.  

Winterfest 2023 concluded with a talk from an icon of the photography world, Albert Watson joining us live from his New York studio.  He delighted staff and students alike with stories about photographs used in class for years spending almost two hours engaging with students.

"It was a was real privilege for staff and students alike to hear from Albert Watson, one of the world's preeminent fine art, commercial and fashion photographers. Albert's portfolio includes iconic images of Alfred Hitchcock, Steve Jobs, David Bowie, Diana Ross and Andy Warhol, to name but a few. 

"This was truly a life enriching experience for all those who attended.  We hope this year's ‘Winterfest’ is the start of more collaboration with other centres and industry in developing a key event in the photography calendar.
