Team City Set for WorldSkills Finals - Manchester 2023

The finalists for this year's WorldSkills UK national competition have been announced and it is encouraging to see 12 of them from City of Glasgow College finalists across 5 skill areas.

All of the finalists were among the top performers in the UK in their chosen disciplines following a series of regional qualifiers.

Team City will join 500 other students and apprentices across the country and battle it out to be crowned skills champions across creative industries and digital skills, hospitality and leisure, built environment, and business.

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, said:

“As an advocate for vocational excellence, I firmly believe these competitions help to improve skills levels and deliver economic growth, and we are very pleased to see them return this year in a format that reflects present circumstances. I am also delighted that City of Glasgow College is once again fielding such a strong team and we hope, of course, to repeat our previous successes.”

Margaret Darroch, Head of WorldSkills Academy at City of Glasgow College, said:

"Despite post-pandemic challenges it is really encouraging to see so many of our students and apprentices have secured a place in the national finals. All of the finalists were amongst the top performers in the UK in their chosen disciplines. I have been blown away by the creativity of our competitors and trainers who have resolutely maintained their enthusiasm and commitment."

The WorldSkills UK competition-based development programmes are designed by industry experts and enhance the practical skills and knowledge taught on training courses by assessing an individual’s employability attributes against set criteria in a competitive timed environment. And competitors who impress under pressure could see themselves representing the UK at the “Skills Olympics” in France in 2024.

This year the national finals will take place in Greater Manchester across nine venues – including colleges, universities and independent training providers.  The city will play host to over 50 finals with 500 competitors from all over the UK competing on 14 - 17 November.

Congratulations and good luck to our finalists:-
