Students encouraged to take their shot
An NHS Mobile Vaccination Unit has arrived at City of Glasgow College giving students and staff the chance to drop in and receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
Located at the college’s City Campus, the college is encouraging anyone over 16 years who has yet to receive their first vaccination, or who had their first dose over eight weeks ago, to take the time to visit the mobile clinic.
Gillian Plunkett, Director for Student Experience at City of Glasgow College, said:
“Throughout this global pandemic the health and welfare of our students has been our top priority. We are delighted to welcome the NHS Mobile Vaccination Unit which will be on site at our City campus for two days. It offers immediate access for students and staff who have still to receive their first vaccine, or their second dose.
“While we continue with our hybrid learning and teaching approach this new academic year, we are encouraging our students to take up the vaccine which is strongly recommended by the NHS as providing the best protection against the effects of Covid-19.”
Bernie Savage, Student President for City of Glasgow College, added:
“CitySA are delighted to support and encourage our students to take up the vaccine as coming together as a community will help defeat this virus.”
The NHS Mobile Vaccination Unit is located at the college’s City campus on Glasgow’s Cathedral Street from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 September.
The vaccines available in the Unit will include Pfizer as a first dose for anyone aged 16-39 years of age, and Pfizer and Moderna vaccines as a second dose for those who are eight weeks from their first dose (any age). Anyone receiving a second dose should bring a record of the date they received their first vaccine and the vaccine type, if possible.
Students (asylum seekers and refugees) are able to receive a vaccination without providing a CHI (Community Health Index) number.
AstraZeneca is not available at the mobile clinic - individuals requiring a second dose of AstraZeneca can visit an NHSGGC community drop-in centre.
