Key figures line up for Smart Shipping Symposium
City of Glasgow College has an impressive line-up of guest speakers confirmed for its international maritime symposium which takes place in June.
The Smart Shipping Symposium will hear from leading experts in the maritime and shipping industries including Guy Platten, Chief Executive of the UK Chamber of Shipping; and Captain John Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer, The Nautical Institute.
Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, said:
“It is a measure of our college’s reputation that our maritime symposium attracts eminent industry specialists which also includes representatives from Bletchley Park and Rolls Royce Marine, as well as colleagues from the State University of New York, Maritime College. I am very much looking forward to two days of stimulating debate which will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing global dialogue around smart shipping.”
Glasgow businessman and entrepreneur, Jim McColl, will address the event on its first day. He said:
“When our country’s flagship college invites me to speak at its maritime symposium, I know I will be amongst some of the industry’s most respected names.
“City of Glasgow College has given Scotland one of the finest maritime campuses in the world and its nautical faculty has a long history of providing us with highly skilled mariners. I am looking forward to talking about subjects close to my heart; innovation and leadership, qualities I know are being instilled into our future seafarers.”
Smart Shipping takes place at the college’s multi-award winning Riverside campus on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 June and will focus on just how smart ships and the crew who operate them can become.
