City of Glasgow College is proud to announce its role in a new project designed to transform innovation in Scotland’s construction and built environment sector. Working alongside the Institute of Innovation & Knowledge Exchange (IKE) and Robertson Group, the College will help create the Built Environment Innovation Assessment (BEIA) platform, a digital tool designed to help businesses measure and improve their ability to innovate.

This exciting project, funded by Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST), is all about giving construction companies the tools they need to stay ahead in a rapidly changing world. From adopting new technologies to meeting sustainability goals, the BEIA platform will help businesses assess their strengths, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions to drive growth.

Roy Gardner, Vice Principal at City of Glasgow College, highlighted the importance of the initiative:

“This project is a fantastic opportunity to work with our industry partners and make a real difference. The BEIA platform will allow businesses to measure their innovation and continuously improve. We are passionate about using collaboration to create change and are excited to lead this initiative.”

The BEIA platform will provide businesses with a 360-degree assessment of their innovation practices, gathering input from employees, customers, and stakeholders. This feedback will help businesses align their strategies, embrace new technologies, and highlight the positive impact of their efforts.

Michelle Medhat, Director of Operations at IKE, explained:

“The construction sector is changing fast. Innovation is no longer optional; it is essential. The BEIA platform will give businesses the insights they need to thrive and maximise their potential on every project.”

As the lead industry partner, Robertson Construction Group will help develop and assess the platform before it is rolled out across the sector. Mike King, Executive Technical Director at Robertson, shared his enthusiasm:

“Continuous improvement is crucial to the future of our industry. The BEIA platform will make it easier for businesses to assess their innovation capabilities and see the impact of their efforts.”

The project will kick off with industry events in January 2025, including a round table on innovation trends and a workshop to explore challenges and opportunities in the sector.
