City Student Awarded #FemaleBoss Grant

At City of Glasgow College, fostering student success and empowering individuals to reach their full potential is at the heart of everything we do. That is why we are thrilled to share that a dedicated student in our Professional Writing program - Lucy Martin – has recently been awarded a grant through the esteemed #FemaleBoss initiative.

Since its launch in 2021, #FemaleBoss has been an invaluable resource for our students, providing mentorship, support, and opportunities for growth in the entrepreneurial sphere. Through its Bridge 2 Business program, students like Lucy have the chance to develop their skills, connect with industry experts, and access funding to kickstart their entrepreneurial endeavours.

Lucy's journey with #FemaleBoss is a testament to the transformative impact of this initiative. From the moment she joined the program, Lucy demonstrated a remarkable dedication to her entrepreneurial aspirations. Through intensive workshops, interactive sessions, and one-on-one mentorship, she honed her skills and refined her business ideas with passion and determination.

Today, we are proud to celebrate Lucy's success as she receives just shy of £2,000 in grant funding to support her entrepreneurial venture. This achievement not only highlights Lucy's talent and hard work but also underscores the importance of initiatives like #FemaleBoss in nurturing the next generation of business leaders. Lucy expressed:

“I had my business idea, 'Seraphina Sews' for a while and saw the female boss programme as the perfect opportunity to pursue it. I believe initiatives like this are so important because it is a space where women can come together to build each other up. It means a lot that business insiders believed in my vision and I finally have the confidence to turn my hobbies into a business. The sky's the limit!”

Lucy’s business Seraphina Sews combines vintage aesthetics with recycled textiles to create embroidery kits for sewing enthusiasts, from beginner to advanced levels. You can see examples of Lucy’s work at @lucymartin.studio. Lucy is currently seeking assistance with online content creation, including filming, and editing sewing tutorials and designing a logo. This is one of the reasons she applied for the grant: to hire a skilled student who excels in these areas, enhancing her business's digital presence.

As a college, we are committed to providing our students with the resources and support they need to thrive in their chosen fields. Lucy's journey exemplifies the power of education, mentorship, and community in unlocking opportunities and realising dreams.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Lucy on this well-deserved honour. Her resilience, creativity, and ambitious spirit serve as an inspiration to us all. We look forward to witnessing her continued success and are proud to have played a part in her journey.

We believe in the potential of every student, and we remain dedicated to empowering them to achieve their goals, both within the classroom and beyond. As we celebrate Lucy's accomplishment, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of inspiration, excellence, and innovation for all.
