CITY OF GLASGOW COLLEGE WELCOME HIGHER & FURTHER EDUCATION MINISTER
City of Glasgow College today (Tuesday) welcomed Graeme Dey MSP, Scottish Government’s Minister for Higher & Further Education, as he visited to see for himself the world-class facilities and twin-site campus.
The Minister met with some of the College’s key employers to hear about their symbiotic relationships which provide a pipeline of graduates with skills closely aligning colleges and industry partners to local skills needs.
The College sector plays an integral role in building a resilient, high-skilled economy aligned to key Scottish Government priorities of growing the Scottish economy, eradicating child poverty, providing the skills needed to tackle the climate emergency, and helping to deliver a workforce capable of ensuring high quality and sustainable public services.
Minister for Higher and Further Education Graeme Dey said:
“The partnership between colleges and employers is essential to Scotland’s success, supporting growth, creating opportunities, and ensuring we meet the challenges of tomorrow.
“It was good to see first hand the important work that City of Glasgow College does with industry, across a range of sectors, to equip students with the skills required to drive our economy forward. I was similarly encouraged to hear of their ambitions to build on this.
“There is no doubt that between the vision of the institution, their dedicated staff and the facilities at their disposal, City of Glasgow College will have a key role to play in helping the Scottish Government deliver on our aspirations.”
Dr. Paul Little, Principal and CEO of City of Glasgow College, said:
“City of Glasgow College is a next generation tertiary institution, and we were delighted to be able to showcase to the Minister the innovation, excellence and inspiration being delivered by our lecturing and support staff to our students on a daily basis.
“Colleges are instrumental in helping the Scottish Government meet their key priorities of growing the Scottish economy, eradicating child poverty, providing the skills needed to tackle the climate emergency, and helping to deliver a workforce capable of ensuring high quality and sustainable public services. It is vital that Scotland invests in the college sector and we will continue to collaborate closely with the Scottish Government on our shared ambitions.”
