City of Glasgow College HND Illustration Students Triumph in Industry Collaboration

Two of our talented HND Illustration students, Martina Genovese and Falyne Frearson, have achieved success by securing an industry project with Gladstone.

Their winning proposals involved the creation of two captivating murals for the walls of Gladstone's primary office space. The project aimed to capture the essence of the Gladstone brand while infusing elements of technology, sports, health, and fitness, all infused with a distinctive Scottish charm.

Gladstone were highly impressed by the presentations delivered by all the participating students, highlighting their exceptional professionalism and talent. Ultimately, faced with the difficult decision of selecting a sole winner, Gladstone opted to award the contract to two standout City of Glasgow College students.

At City of Glasgow College, we welcome the opportunity for our students to engage closely with industry, providing them with invaluable real-world experience. This partnership represents a significant enhancement to our students' learning journey alongside esteemed industry collaborators.

Reflecting on her experience, Falyne said

"This project allowed me to work outside of my comfort zone. This was a great experience for me as it gave me a glimpse into what being a freelancer could be like. Since working in a professional environment, I wanted to make my work easy to understand but also create different ideas which helped push me forward to achieving my HND."

Martina drew from her firsthand experiences:

"I lived in the Scottish Highlands for a few months back in 2017, and had the chance to explore a lot of amazing places; so when I heard that one of the key elements of the designs was the Scottish outdoors, I knew I wanted to incorporate a beautiful hilltop view - in this case, the Quiraing ridge in the Isle of Skye, based on one of the pictures I took when I was there. Additionally, as someone who enjoys sports and works out regularly, I was excited to create a design with various athletes, and bring in diversity."

This collaboration stands as a testament to the power of bridging academia and industry, fostering innovation, creativity, and professional growth among our students. We look forward to hearing about the continued success of Martina, Falyne, and all our students.
