City Gives Students Real-World Industry Experience at WELLA Event
On Monday, 21 October, City of Glasgow College hairdressing and barbering department hosted a special event at its City Campus, welcoming students from local colleges, local salon professionals, and staff to experience the launch of WELLA’s newly revamped NIOXIN product line. The day went beyond a product showcase – it was a prime opportunity for students to connect with industry experts and gain valuable hands-on insights.
The highlight of the event was a talk by renowned trichologist Mark Blake, an expert in hair loss and thinning with over 40 years of experience. Mark, who has worked with top brands like NIOXIN, WELLA, and Dyson, shared his extensive knowledge on hair health, loss prevention, and the latest treatments. Students training for careers in hairdressing and salon management had the unique opportunity to gain experience directly from a high-profile industry figure. Mark’s talk gave them deeper insights into the science of hair care, the importance of selecting the right treatments for clients, and how to approach the growing issues of thinning hair and hair loss.
May Donald, Associate Dean of Hair, Beauty, Complementary, Spa Therapies, and Makeup Artistry, reflected on the success of the event:
“We were delighted to welcome Mark Blake to the college, where he shared his expertise with our students and colleagues from the hair and barbering industry. His insights were a perfect complement to the exciting launch… a fantastic day for all.”
For students, events like these provide invaluable exposure to real-world industry practices, helping them build strong professional connections and stay informed about the latest innovations. City of Glasgow College’s commitment to giving students these opportunities ensure they are well-prepared to step confidently into their careers in the hair and beauty industry.
