City adopts Canvas as its new Virtual Learning Environment
City of Glasgow College has chosen Canvas by Instructure as its new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to replace its current platform, Moodle.
The new platform will enhance and take forward the college’s transformative approach to its learning and teaching environment.
Dr Claire Carney, Vice Principal for Student Experience at City of Glasgow College, said:
“The procurement of Canvas represents a significant financial and human resource investment. It supports our college’s strategic direction and our students will benefit from a richer, more interactive learning experience where their learning will be active, blended and connected.”
Joe Wilson, Head of Digital Skills at City of Glasgow College, explains that people are much more aware of what can be achieved digitally.
“Online requirements have moved on significantly since Moodle was developed. Adopting Canvas meets our current online capabilities, and it will ensure that both digital and face-to-face teaching is more effective while future proofing our delivery.
“As part of our review into a new VLE we captured the overall market across Scotland and the consensus was that Canvas offered the best platform. It integrates well with many of the college’s existing systems. It is cloud based and simpler to use, providing a more efficient online system for learning, assessment, and collaboration.”
The majority of staff are expected to start making the transition to the new VLE for the start of the new academic term on 30 August. A training package is in place to support this transition.
