Barbering Students Shines Bright at AHT National Final
On Monday, May 13th, the City of Glasgow College proudly sent a cohort of five talented barbering students to compete in the finals of the prestigious competition hosted by The Association of Hairdressers & Therapists (AHT) in Blackpool. This event is as a platform for young talent to showcase their skills on a national stage, and City of Glasgow College proved to be a shining example of excellence.
The College's commitment to nurturing brilliance in its students was abundantly evident as their Level 5 and Level 6 barbering students stepped up to the challenge. Amidst fierce competition and high expectations, these aspiring barbers demonstrated their technical prowess and their unwavering dedication to their craft.
In the Level 5 barbering category, City of Glasgow College emerged triumphant, securing both the first and third positions. Aaron Fallon clinched the top spot with his impeccable skills showcased on his model Gavin Thompson, while Faizan Rauf proudly claimed the third position with his model Osama Pervaiz. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the rigorous training and mentorship provided by the College, empowering students to reach their full potential and surpass industry standards.
Not to be outdone, the Level 6 barbering students displayed their exceptional skills, with Iain Stratton securing the second position with his model Colin Graham. This remarkable feat further solidifies the College's reputation for excellence in training the next generation of talented barbers.
Expressing immense pride in their students' accomplishments, the faculty and staff at City of Glasgow College lauded their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. Through a combination of hands-on training, mentorship, and a supportive learning environment, the College continues to empower students to excel in their chosen fields.
The professionalism of the students representing the College was exceptional, with the standards of haircuts they produced not going unnoticed. Feedback from the judges was overwhelmingly positive, with two of them, who own their own academies in England, expressing disbelief at the amazing skills displayed by students who are only 1 or 2 years into a barbering course. They further stated that they would happily employ any of them in their salons. Lecturer Leanne McGuire reflected on the success of City of Glasgow College's barbering team:
“Due to the constant hard work and dedication of our barbering team myself, Blair, Lynsey, June and Giorgios…this allows our students to flourish, develop new skills, techniques and seek out their potential in becoming successful barbers in this industry.”
