We caught up with HNC Media and Communications student Marielle Jan Erika L. Reyes from the Philippines and chatted about studying at City of Glasgow College as an international student.
I decided to study at City of Glasgow College because of how welcoming everyone was. The first time I visited Scotland was back in 2019 and I got to see how kind, accommodating and friendly Scottish people are. I loved all the scenery and how even if central Glasgow is a busy place, I never felt out of place.

I like how the College has so many things to offer its students. I've been going to the free yoga and gym classes at the College. I feel like it has really helped my physical and mental wellbeing throughout the year. I also like how there are so many places to relax around the College, it's very student-friendly, especially at lunchtime.
I chose to study here because after graduating I feel like Scotland has more to offer career wise and I've always wanted to be independent and study abroad.
I chose to study Media and Communications because from an early age I have always been a creative kid whether that be through music, arts and crafts and innovative ideas. I loved doing video projects and writing stories and this course covers all of that.
After my first year I plan on going on to study an HND, then perhaps getting an internship somewhere where I can put my skills to good use.
I enjoy its people. It's true when they say that "People Make Glasgow." All the fun characters you meet and friends you make are what make Glasgow fun.
I chose to study here because of the course firstly and because my cousins live here which makes me feel more comfortable and like a home away from home.
I recommend it for people who love learning in a practical way. This is because all of the tasks and the way we learn is through hands on experience, not theory. This allows you to create portfolios and create pieces of work whilst studying as well.
My tip is not to be worried about making friends along the way, the college is massive and you'll be able to make a good amount of them.
