September 2022 - Indonesia visit
This month we've had the pleasure of meeting some of our existing and new partners face to face in Singapore and across Indonesia (Batam, Jakarta and Bandung).
Carla Gethin, Director - Business Partnerships and Ranjith Sankaranarayanan, Project Manager - International Programmes have undertaken a packed agenda and highly productive tour strengthening our international relationships and consolidating some of our partner delivery programmes.
Along with business meetings with our friends at State Polytechnic of Batam we delivered several workshops on the college's approach to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion, Skills Academies and Session Planning.
An important part of our visit to Polibatam was to discuss our UK Government Skills For Prosperity Programme, administered through the International Labour Organisation. Several meetings and activities took place to enhance the employability and future readiness of young people aspiring to pursue careers in supply chain management within the maritime sector. It was a pleasure to deliver these activities in person.
It was a pleasure to meet our partners and friends at Credible College, Indonesia and present to their students. We look forward to expanding our English Language provision with you.
We had the honour of meeting the Director General of Vocational Education Kiki Yuliati from the Ministry of Education Culture, Research and Technology and the Directors of Vocational Education and Training and Institutional and Resource Affairs for Vocational Higher Education in Jakarta.
A very positive and informative discussion was held with the ministry, Mary Kent and her team, from the International Labour Organisation and Pak Uuf from State Polytechnic of Batam. We were delighted to be offered the opportunity to support the Indonesian Government’s ambition for a Universal Quality Education and build on our Skills for Prosperity project with both of our partners.
It was also great to meet with Colm Peter Downes from the British Council to discuss our current English Language for Instructional Purposes project with our partners State Polytechnic of Batam.

Carla and Jacqui were delighted to have participated in the Gathering of the UK Awardees of the Indonesian Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) 2023 event at the Indonesian Embassy in London as one of the UK Host Institutions.
Over 300 Indonesian students on a scholarship programme to institutional establishments throughout the UK gathered together for a day of debate, celebration and engagement followed by an insightful Q and A session with Indonesian Ambassador to the UK and Ireland De Desra Percaya.
The scholarship plays an important role in preparing students with the knowledge and skills for a future ready mindset, offering a cross-cultural appreciation and understanding that will prepare a new generation of global citizens who are ready to contribute to society and the world.
City’s ongoing involvement with this valued initiative brings reciprocal benefits of learning and great pleasure to all involved, and we look forward to continuing in this long-standing and joyful arrangement.
