Could you partner with us to create, motivate & educate the future Social Care workforce?

We have almost 50 NC Health and Social Care Level 6 students that we are looking to find placements for over a 2-week period from the 7th of March 2022 to 18th March 2022.  We are looking for providers of Social Care to sign-up and offer some workplace experience for a student.  The commitment will be to have the student on placement for a maximum 10-day period.

We have decided to offer these students a placement block due to the increasing uncertainties with COVID, and also feel that this will provide a better experience than attending one day per week over a longer period of time.

Students will have completed their PVG membership with City of Glasgow College prior to placement.

Whilst on placement, students are expected to follow the City of Glasgow College Code of Conduct, which reinforces our key values of:

  • The individual
  • Equality, diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Integrity, honesty and transparency.
  • Excellence and achievement.
  • Partnership.
  • Innovation and enterprise.

We are hoping that providers will see this as an opportunity to help create, motivate and educate their future workforce.

Hello there and thanks for your interest in providing an occupational placement for our NC6 Health and Social Care students. As you will be aware, the demands for health and social care services are increasing every year and as a result there is a need to expand and develop the workforce.  An important aspect of the NC6 Health and Social Care course is the provision of an occupational placement, as this allows students to consolidate the learning they gain in college and contributes heavily to the development of the future workforce.

Working in partnership with City of Glasgow College can also provide opportunities for your organisation, including access to possible funding to upskill your workforce and a wide variety of courses in many subject areas. Consequently, we would be grateful if you would consider offering a placement opportunity for our students to aid their development as social care practitioners.  Jason McMillan, Curriculum Head.

An Employers Experience

“Cherry Tree Court is a registered care home supporting individuals with complex needs and over the years have had a number of students which has brought exceptional value to the lives of the individuals who reside here, having students allows individuals to participate in more social activities within a community settings within the community setting, Students enable staff to develop their own skills in relation to succession planning and also support staff to revisit their practice and refresher understanding on why we have specific approaches to support and communication with supported individuals. Students find these opportunities rewarding as they can access in house training and experience Complex Needs support first hand. We will continue to support Student placements through The City of Glasgow College and support the workforce of Social Care Development”  Louise Lennox, The Richmond Fellowship Scotland - Cherry Tree Court.

As an organisation, having students on placement in our services is invaluable.  Students are able to share with us their up-to-date knowledge and learning from college and are often a breath of fresh air in that sense and allow us to challenge our own knowledge and practice.  Students work alongside experienced staff members, who impart their knowledge and skills to ensure that any student on placement is gaining sound experience and grounding for their current and future endeavours,  we want our students to be a success in their chosen careers.  Over the years we have had students who have gone on to become Support Worker's within our teams and it has been really exciting to be part of their development in this area. We take pride in the fact that placement students have gained a level of experience and want to apply for work with the organisation.

I myself was a placement student years ago at our day services in Sense Scotland and my experience as a student was so enjoyable and fulfilling that I went on to work with Sense Scotland and here I am, over 20 years later, still working with the organisation.   We currently have a student on placement from City of Glasgow College and from the onset, communication from the college and expectations have been positive.  Sam Taylor, Sense Scotland.
