Overview
WSET's Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner to intermediate level qualification exploring wines, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. It is intended for beginners looking to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.
This course will be held at City of Glasgow College.
The Level 2 qualification covers a broad range of wines, focusing on grape varieties and growing regions. During the course, you will delve deeper into the theory, geography and history behind the grape varieties. You will develop tasting techniques using a wide range of quality wines. Assessing these wines will help broaden your understanding whether in a professional or personal capacity. This WSET Level 2 Award in Wine offers the experience of tasting some outstanding high-quality wines.

This is an evening course running on:
- Tuesday evenings from 1/10/24 - 26/11/24: 6pm - 8pm each evening with examination on 10/12/24 OR
- Tuesday evenings from 28/1/25 - 25/3/25: 6pm - 8pm each evening with examination on 22/4/25

The course is assessed by a one-hour multiple-choice exam.
The course fee includes tuition, learning materials book, wine tasting, exam fee and certification.

Minimum entry requirements
- A keen interest in wine and/or working within the hospitality industry with the ambition to progress wine knowledge.
What you study
- How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
- How environmental factors, grape-growing, wine making and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties:
- Chardonnay.
- Pinot Grigio/Gris.
- Sauvignon Blanc.
- Riesling.
- Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Merlot.
- Pinot Noir.
- Syrah/Shiraz.
- The style and quality of wines:
- made from 22 regionally important grape varieties.
- produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world.
- How grape varieties and wine making processes influence key styles of:
- Sparkling wines.
- Fortified wines.
- Key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality.
- Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine.
- Principles of food and wine pairing.
Exam
The course is assessed by a one-hour 50 multiple-choice question examination which will be held at City of Glasgow College - dates above
On successful completion of the examination, you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.
After the course
Careers
Candidates can progress to WSET Level 3 Award in Wine available at City of Glasgow College.
