  • Overview

    Our NQ Television course is a practical, dynamic, skills based course.

    We’ll show you the professional way to create great content for television, from studio based programmes to short films. You’ll learn industry specific skills such as camera, editing, scriptwriting, sound and audio post-production.

    You’ll have the chance to meet industry professionals working in television and video production as well as studying how the modern TV sector works.

    We’ll teach you how to plan and schedule your shoot, and you’ll experience the challenges and rewards of working as part of a production crew, both in our state of the art television studio and out on location.

    You'll be taught by staff with significant television industry experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including English; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    What you study

    You'll be given technical and practical experience in camera, editing, sound, and directing for single and multi-camera. These skills will allow you to create your own film, which can be used as a showreel when applying for jobs, or other courses.

    After the course

    Careers

    The majority of our students go on to further study but it may be possible to look for more junior posts in the industry on successful completion of the NQ Television course.

    Continuing Study

    Successful students can progress to the HNC or HND Television courses at the college subject to conditions and places being available.

    You can also apply for courses at other institutions.
