  • Overview

    This course prepares you for entry to HNC Soft Tissue Therapy / HND Sports Therapy. It introduces you to human physiology and body massage, as well as sports mechanics and other relevant subjects (please see the 'What you Study' section below, for more information).

    You'll be taught by qualified specialists in sports therapy and sports science, who have a wealth of industry experience.
    The course is a blend of practical subjects which take place in the sports clinic, the gym and the classroom. You'll be expected to work with your classmates in a range of areas including designing a training programme and sports therapy related areas such as taping and massage. To give you valuable first-hand experience you'll have the opportunity to work with HND students at events that require sports therapy, or first aid support.

    On successful completion of the NQ course, you'll be able to progress to HNC Soft Tissue Therapy / HND Sports Therapy or any other relevant HN programme.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 5. 

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Three National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above in a relevant* subject; OR
    • National Qualification at SCQF level 5 in a Sports related subject; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    * relevant subjects include: English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, PE, Mathematics and Geography.

    Additional selection requirements

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form. 
    • The interview will consist of a group task demonstrating teamwork and communication with other interviewees.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    After the course

    Careers

    The course is designed as an entry onto further study.

    Continuing Study

    You'll be able to progress to HNC Soft Tissue Therapy, or HND Sports Therapy after successfully completing the course.

    Teaching

    How the course is taught

    Units are delivered for between 18 and 36 weeks, depending on the subject.

    Assessment methods

    There are various ways to assess your knowledge & skills, including class-based exams, completion of coursework, such as handing in exercise training plans and practical assessments, including working with "real" clients.

    A maximum of TWO attempts are allowed for each assessment.

    Materials

    The college has a variety of books available, so there is no requirement to purchase these.

    Dress code

    You'll be provided with a college uniform which must be worn in all practical classes.  In non-practical subjects, students may wear smart but casual clothes but no football colours are permitted in any environment.
