Overview
This is a full-time construction course delivered by highly qualified lecturers who have a wealth of experience in the industry.
You'll study practical and theoretical units covering aspects of carpentry and joinery. You'll also have the opportunity to develop transferable skills which are important if you want to gain employment within the Construction Industry (please see the 'What You Study' section, below, to find out more).
This is a college-devised course and on successful completion, you will receive certification of units achieved from the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
This course is designed to be a progression route from NQ Extended Carpentry and Joinery (Level 5), as such, there are limited spaces available.
For those just starting their college journey and looking to study carpentry and joinery, we would recommend applying for NPA Carpentry and Joinery (level 5) and working through the progression routes to gain the most skills.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Carpentry and Joinery - NPA (SCQF Level 5); OR
- Carpentry and Joinery - City and Guilds (SCQF Level 5); OR
- Practical Woodworking/Metalworking - National 5; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Continuing study
This course will allow progression to the technical side of built environment courses at NC level or into the college's furniture design courses.

This course will be delivered through blended learning with demonstrations, lectures and practical activities.
Assessment methods
You will be assessed via a mix of assessments.
Additional Information
Dress code
For the practical side of the course, you will be issued with steel-toed safety boots and work coveralls. Safety boots are to be worn at all times during practical activities, however workwear must not be worn outside the construction hall or workwear cafe. Students not following this code of conduct will be subject to disciplinary action.
