Overview

This course will teach you a comprehensive range of skills in Jewellery Design, with a design-led focus.
You will be encouraged to develop your creative ideas and will be taught how to translate these ideas into finished, 3D pieces of jewellery.
Students will learn the basic creative and technical skills needed by jewellers, including introductory manufacturing techniques in a variety of materials.
There is a strong ethos of ethical making and sustainability, which will be embedded into your learning.
The qualification also meets the National Occupation Standards for employers.

Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
This course would suit students who are interested in Art and Design and who wish to work in an exciting medium. Applicants should have National 5 English and an Art or Craft/Design subject.

After the course
Careers
This course could lead to a career in Jewellery production including Bench Jeweller, Jewellery Designer and self-employed artist. The qualification also meets the National Occupation Standards for employers.
Continuing Study
Graduates of this course can progress through a variety of Design programmes at City including Jewellery Arts and Technology NQ (Level 6), HNC and HND Applied Arts.

Teaching
How the course is taught
This is a practical course with many of your classes taking place in a practical setting. The design theory will be taught in studio environments using professional equipment.
Assessment methods
There are a range of assessment methods which include ongoing project-based learning, multiple-choice questions, practical observation checklist, independent research tasks, short report writing and self-study projects.
