Overview
In this project-based course, you’ll cover all the main skills used in the furniture manufacturing industry, including craft timber and upholstery.
Working in our fully-equipped workshops, you’ll also learn about wood finishing and how changes in culture and lifestyle affect furniture. In addition, you’ll gain experience in both modern and traditional methods of furniture production.
You'll be awarded an NQ Furniture on successful completion of this course. This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Careers
If successful, you may be taken on as a trainee by a furniture firm, or even go into self-employment.
Continuing Study
Students can go on to study the HNC/D in Furniture Craftsmanship with Design and HNC/D Furniture Restoration here at the college.
