Overview
The NQ in Football coaching, in partnership with Partick Thistle Charitable Trust (PTCT), gives learners the knowledge and skills necessary to work as professionals within Football or the wider discipline of sports development and coaching.
Successful applicants will be placed within the Partick Thistle Charitable Trust (PTCT) programmes most suited to their home location and travel requirements. These work placements will provide invaluable experience within PTCT, allowing individuals to develop their coaching practice, employment and education prospects.

Minimum entry requirements
- One Higher and three National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including PE and English (or Modern Studies, History, Media Studies or Biology) AND SFA 1:1 Coaching Award (or working towards); OR
- National Qualification at SCQF level 5 in a Sports related subject; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or coaching experience.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- The interview will consist of a group discussion and practical exercise with other interviewees. Please bring suitable indoor gym wear.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
What you study
As part of the NQ Football Coaching, students will enhance their coaching practices while learning from experts in their field. In addition to live coaching sessions, learners will study laws of the game, event management, game analysis, human physiology and physical training methods.
This NQ will also include a stand-alone, industry-recognised NPA in Sports Coaching, an NPA in Play in a Sporting environment and a PDA in Football refereeing - recognised by the Scottish Football Association.
After the course
Careers
Working in the football industry as an assistant coach or assistant development officer.
Continuing Study
Progression onto the HNC Coaching with Sports Development.

Over two semesters from August - June.
