Overview
This course introduces you to the knowledge and practical skills you'll need to work in Financial Services. The course focuses on understanding the Financial Services sector and the associated regulations, whilst also introducing desirable business skills such as sales, customer service, cash management and IT.
This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 5/6.

Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- ​Three National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above in relevant* subjects; OR
- Relevant* Foundation Apprenticeship qualification; OR
- NQ/NC/NPA in Business or Accounting or Finance at SCQF level 4/5; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
*Relevant subjects include any from a STEM discipline, Business or English.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Continuing Study
If you successfully complete 16 units on the NQ course you can progress to HNC Financial Services, HNC Accounting or a number of other HNC courses from the business offerings in the college.
Teaching
How the course is taught
The course is intended to be delivered in a blended way with up to one day per week being taught online and up to two days per week being taught in college (subject to and operating within any Scottish Government Covid-19 operating procedures). You are timetabled for approximately 16 hours per week and an additional 16 hours should be allowed for studying out with class time in order to be successful.
You will complete practical assignments based on a variety of case studies. There will also be an element of report writing to demonstrate the ability to explain and analyse information.
You will be required to use IT to complete some of the units. You should ensure that you possess a basic level of IT in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
For online learning, you will require access to a device and Wifi. You will also be accessing learning resources on our virtual learning environment called Canvas.
Assessment methods
This course is designed on the principle of continuous assessment. You will be continuously working towards, undertaking or preparing for an assessment for at least one outcome.
The assessments will be a combination of closed book assessments under controlled and timed conditions and other practical assessment methods such as presentations.
