Overview
NQ Cyber Security is an introductory level course incorporating the National Progression Award (NPA) in Cyber Security at SCQF Level 6.
Cyber security is one of the fastest evolving areas of business and government today as online systems make up the foundations of the digitally-enabled economy.
The course is an introductory level course enabling learners to develop a basic understanding of the fundamental tools and techniques of key areas such as Data Security, Digital Forensics and Ethical Hacking.
The course is delivered by experienced lecturers with a wide range of industry experience.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Four National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including English, Mathematics and Computing or Physics; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Careers
It is not anticipated that this award will lead directly to employment. It is primarily designed as a ‘feeder’ qualification to more advanced awards.
Your units will be assessed via a combination of practical and knowledge assessments under closed and open-book assessment conditions.

Successful students can go on to study the following Higher National level courses:
- HNC CyberSecurity.
- HNC Computing (Networking).

How the course is taught
We adopt a student centred approach to learning where your tutors will facilitate your learning and comprehension through individual and group work. Your theory and knowledge will be backed up with lots of hands-on practical experience gained in our dedicated computing labs in our new campus. All our teaching materials are available through our ‘MyCity’ online learning environment.
