    If you enjoy working with people and want to encourage them to take a positive approach to health and wellbeing, this could be the course for you. The course develops the skills involved in holistic and complementary therapies, including body and facial massage, healthy eating and wellbeing and techniques for managing stress. Through professional skills practice sessions, you'll gain experience and confidence working with clients.

    In recent years interest in holistic therapies has increased considerably; this is expected to continue, providing employment opportunities to meet the demand from those seeking alternative ways to reduce stress and enhance feelings of general well-being. 

    The course is delivered by our dedicated highly skilled lecturing team, who have experience within the holistic and complementary therapies profession. 

    You'll be able to participate in volunteering opportunities throughout the year, offering treatments in a variety of settings. The course also provides you with the qualifications you need for professional membership and insurance.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Four National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
    • Due to European Directive, you should be 16 years of age by 30 September 2024 to undertake this course.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    • Thai Foot Massage.

    • Healthy Eating and Wellbeing.

    After the course

    Careers

    This course prepares you for a career in complementary or holistic therapy practices within health and leisure spas, or to become self-employed.

    Continuing Study

    Students are eligible to apply for HND Complementary Therapies (SCQF Level 8) or HND Beauty Therapy (SCQF Level 8).

    Teaching

    How the course is taught

    A variety of learning and teaching methods are used to deliver practical and theory-based subjects, in fully equipped treatment rooms, and IT-enabled classrooms.  You'll carry out practical work on a diverse range of clients, and will also be required to model for treatments yourself.

    Assessment methods

    The course utilises a variety of assessment methods, including practical observation, case study compilation, research projects and closed book theory papers.

    Additional Information

    Materials

    A kit is required for this course.  An order form will be supplied to those who accept a place.  All other materials for the course will be provided, and students may be given the option to purchase an additional College-approved kit for some specialist units.

    Dress code

    For practical class, the College approved uniform must be worn, with suitable footwear - details will be supplied.  Longer hair must be tied back, no jewellery on hands or arms, and nails must be short and unvarnished.
