Overview

This exciting course provides you with the required industry-leading training skills to enhance your career as a barber. During the course, you'll take part in a variety of activities including pop-up barbering shops within the college, competitions, demonstrations and presentations.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
  • Due to European Directive you require to be 16 years of age by 30 September 2024 to undertake this course.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

What you study

You'll study units which include:-

  • Cut Hair Using Basic Barbering Techniques.
  • Cut Facial Hair to Shape.
  • Create Basic Outlines and Detailing in Hair.
  • Dry and Finish Men’s Hair.

After the course

Careers

You will be able to gain employment as a senior Barber or apply for training positions within the Barbering industry and Further Education.

Continuing Study

SVQ Barbering Level 3 Gents Hairdressing (SCQF Level 6).

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course is taught in a live salon environment with hands-on practical tasks and also written work.  You will work with live models for assessment. You will also carry out a work placement within the Barbering industry.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include online from SQA and practical observed assessments within the classroom.
