Overview
This course offers you an ideal first step into the Interior Design Industry, providing you with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to begin your career journey.
You'll learn the knowledge and skills necessary to work on projects - from initial conceptual ideas to a fully functional interior design scheme you could present to a commercial client (please see further information in the 'what you study' section below).
Your programme will be delivered by our highly professional teaching staff with significant Interior Design experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. A blended approach to learning & teaching may continue and will include at least one full-day in the studio environment, online classes and independent study.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- National 5 Art and Design and National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- You’ll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work. It is important you upload a digital portfolio as well as your SQA certificates.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
What you study
You'll study:
- Freehand sketching and rendering in a variety of media.
- Production of technical drawings using both traditional ink drawings.
- The latest industry standard AutoCAD software.
- Production of fully rendered, perspective visuals.
- Production of sketch and finished scale 3D models.
- Presentation techniques to sell your designs to clients.
- The foundation of professional practices, including time management, organisational skills and problem-solving.
