If you are passionate about addressing injustice, can argue your point and have an eye for detail, you may want to consider a career in law. This dynamic and interactive course is designed as an introduction to the main sources of Scots and Criminal Law.
You will
- Interact with professionals working within the legal sector.
- Gain real-world experience through a series of guest speakers including Police Scotland.
- Visit the High Court and Sheriff Court.
- Investigate what constitutes a crime in Scotland and the main principles involved in prosecuting crime.
From this, you will consider the nature of crime and how it affects the community.
Through collaborative study, debates and mock trials you will develop knowledge and understanding of the system of criminal prosecution in Scotland, about the tribunal system, and the roles, appointments and responsibilities of the legal profession.

This course is suitable for collaborative and creative, critical thinkers who have career aspirations within legal services. Applicants should be working towards achieving Higher English.

Careers
There are several opportunities in the Scottish Legal Profession. To meet future demand, the sector needs to recruit 7,000 new lawyers annually. This course could be your first step toward a career as a Paralegal, Solicitor or Advocate.
Graduates of our Legal Services HND have gone on to practice law, with some even managing their own law firms.
Continuing Study
Successful completion of the NPA enables you to progress directly to our Legal Services HNC (Level 7).
