During this course, you’ll get a practical hands-on introduction to job roles in the hospitality sector.  You’ll learn about the importance of customer care and how this contributes to the success of an organisation. You’ll develop customer service skills and how to establish good relationships with customers.

You’ll investigate the importance of IT and will practise organising and managing information.  You’ll create and edit business documents using a variety of applications covering word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

You’ll develop your employability skills including communication, teamwork, flexibility and adaptability, demonstrating respect and consideration for others.   You’ll consider job roles and responsibilities across the industry, and explore qualifications required for these roles and progression routes.

You’ll have the chance to put your skills to the test during work experience in Scholars' our training restaurant and The Bistro.

Minimum entry requirements

This course would suit outgoing and enthusiastic students who have achieved several National 4 subjects including Maths and English and are currently studying at least 1 other subject at National 5.

Recent events have increased opportunities in the Hospitality, Tourism and Travel Sectors.  This course is an ideal first step towards a career in Hotel Front of House, Restaurants, Bars or Tourist Attractions.

Continuing Study

Successful completion of the NPA will enable you to make informed decisions on a progression route that matches your abilities, aspirations and goals.

Combined with other qualifications, this course puts you on a progression pathway through NQ at Level 6 to HND at Level 8 in either Hospitality Management, Travel & Tourism or Events Management.

Teaching

How the course is taught

This is a practical course with many of your classes taking place in a practical setting. There are some theory-based units, numeracy and costing, which are delivered in an interactive classroom setting.

You will be taught in our two restaurants, the Bistro and Scholars’.

Assessment methods

There are a range of assessment methods which include, multiple-choice questions, practical observation checklist, short report writing and self-study projects.
