Esports has become one of the most popular activities in the world, with hundreds of millions of people streaming esports events.  This innovative course introduces an exciting and growing industry – with Scotland set to open its first esports arena in 2024.

You will explore all aspects of the esports industry from how the sector developed to the future of the industry and the variety of careers available to the organisation of the esports industry.  You’ll develop a solid grounding in acting professionally within this expanding sector as you develop your career.

Working in our specialised computer labs, you’ll examine software and hardware and discover how to improve their performance during competitive gaming sessions.

You’ll have the opportunity to put your skills to the test by planning and promoting your own esports event. You’ll practice how to find the right venue, obtain sponsorship and create a budget.  You’ll develop your branding and marketing skills before promoting the event via social media. Finally, you will run and livestream your event.

This course could be your first step towards working in this vibrant and stimulating growth industry as you develop a range of skills that are essential in the workplace.

Minimum entry requirements

This course would suit creative, collaborative and computer-savvy individuals who have a genuine interest in working in this industry. 

You should hold 3 National 5’s in relevant subjects.

Previous knowledge relating to planning, preparing, hosting and evaluating events is advantageous but not essential.

Scotland has a world renowned and growing computer games industry. Esports is going to play an increasingly important role within this industry as a new 4,000-seat esports arena will open in Dundee in 2024.
