Overview

Looking to become an advanced technician or technical engineer?

This course will develop your theoretical and practical knowledge of the advanced automated manufacturing industry, as well as helping with the specific skills you'll need to succeed. You'll be taught by staff with significant engineering experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. Throughout the year, you'll be continually assessed and you'll have the ability to discuss your evaluation of modules. You will be asked to carry out practical work where you'll need to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

This Advanced Automated Systems Engineering course will equip you with an understanding of the knowledge surrounding advanced automated engineering technologies. You'll gain a deeper understanding of how electrical, electronic and mechanical circuits work, the variety of components and systems that you may encounter in the Manufacturing Industry, together with the tools and skills required to work in the sector.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.

After the course

Careers

The course is aimed at providing opportunities for you to progress into continuing study - Electrical or Systems Engineering Apprenticeships or other Engineering Sectors.

Continuing Study

After satisfactory performance while achieving your course, you may progress as follows:

  •  HNC Industrial Automation Engineering with Robotics (Mechatronics) or HNC Electrical Engineering.

Teaching

How the course is taught

You will be taught by a mixture of practical and theory classes. You will attend one full day a week over two years.

The course will be taught in two 18 week blocks with class sessions of two hours duration.

You will also be required to undertake self-study out with timetabled class contact and arrange lab entry for additional practical activities out with timetabled class contact within course study groups.

Assessment methods

You will be continuously assessed by a mixture of written assessment, project work, oral presentation and practical assessment. Each unit will have on average 4 learning outcomes (sometimes more, sometimes less) which will be assessed every few weeks within the 18 week block. All learning outcomes must be passed in order to gain the credit value (normally 1.0) associated with that unit.
