Overview

Please note - this course is a school college partnership course for school students in S4-S6.

This course allows you to explore the multi-faceted world of product design and manufacturing. Creativity is at the heart of this course and its combination with technology makes it exciting and dynamic. Design and Manufacture provides you with skills in designing and communicating design proposals, allowing you to refine and resolve your design ideas effectively. The course promotes the integration of designing and making, highlighting the close relationship between designing, making, testing, and refining design ideas.

This course provides a broad practical introduction to design and materials and manufacturing processes. You will develop design skills as well as skills in making models, prototypes and products. You will look at the life cycle of a product, from idea through design, manufacture, and use, including its disposal or re-use. You will learn to appreciate the relationship between factors such as aesthetics, function, economics and the environment.

Attendance Pattern

  • Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm - 4pm.

Minimum entry requirements

  • This course is suitable for students who are interested in design and model making and who have an artistic, creative, or technical skillset.
  • Applicants should hold three National 4 Qualifications, including English and Art & Design.

After the course

Careers

Teaching

How the course is taught

This is a hands-on and practical course. Staff will demonstrate how to use a variety of materials and equipment which you will learn. You will be taught using examples and get to see how other students have produced a professional portfolio of work. You will also be taught using technology and learn how to follow the design process.
