Overview
This new Digital Media course will develop your creative and technical skills, in the production of screen-based graphic design and media content for interactive and multimedia applications, such as web, mobile app, motion graphics and VFX.
During the course, you'll be taught by staff with significant Digital Media experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.
The course is delivered mainly through practical projects in the studio and state-of-the-art labs, using industry standard software and techniques.

Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Successful completion of a related HNC course or equivalent previous experience.
Additional selection requirements
Submit a portfolio of art and design work that contains:
- 2 examples of finished art or design work
- 2 examples of research for art or design work
- 2 examples of development work for art or design work
This may be uploaded along with your application or linked to as part of an online portfolio of work. Successful candidates will be invited for a course information session.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

After the course
Careers
After the HND you can apply for jobs in the Communication Industry, such as with design consultancies, advertising agencies, online publishing, web design, television and film production, motion graphics for screen, or in-house design studios.
You may eventually become employed as an Interactive, Multimedia, Web or Graphic Designer.
Continuing Study
Students who complete their HND may progress to year three of:
- BSc (Hons) Digital Design: Graphics at Glasgow Caledonian University.
- BA (Hons) Visual Communication at Dundee University.
- BA (Hons) Digital Media at Napier University.
- BA (Hons) Digital Art at the University of the West of Scotland.
Teaching
How the course is taught
The course is taught through a series of practical studio-based projects. There are opportunities to work on live projects and take part in national student competitions. Throughout the year there are visits to exhibitions and professional studios. In addition, we have a robust programme of visiting professionals and guest speakers, providing insight into the real world aspects of working in the creative industries.
Assessment methods
Coursework is continually assessed throughout the academic year. The year is divided into 3 teaching blocks and so assessment is spread evenly throughout the course. There are opportunities for re-assessment throughout the year. There are no end of term exams.
Additional Information
Materials
You'll need to provide a USB pen drive or similar storage device to save your work. You'll need notebooks/sketchbooks for research work and you may be expected to pay for print outs where necessary.
