Overview
This course provides you with sound education and training in key areas of social science theory, research and investigation.
The course is delivered by highly qualified lecturers who have a wealth of experience in the industry. Key course objectives are to develop knowledge in the social sciences; to develop analytical, evaluative and problem-solving skills; to develop communication skills, and to develop personal effectiveness and critical thinking about social and cultural issues.
Career prospects and employment opportunities are excellent with many of our students progressing to 3rd year at university (please see the "After the Course" section, below, to find out more).
After successful completion of the course, you'll be awarded an HND Social Sciences.
This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- HNC Social Sciences with 15 credits at SCQF level 7; OR
- First year of HND Social Sciences with 15 credits at SCQF level 7.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

- Advanced work in the same subject areas as the HNC.
- Criminology may be offered as an additional option.

Employment in relevant industries.
Continuing Study
After completing your HND you may progress to:
- Second, or third year BA (Hons) Social Policy at the University of the West of Scotland.
- Social Science at Glasgow Caledonian University.
- Social Science at the UWS.
Some students have gone on to study at Glasgow, Stirling, and other institutions of higher learning.
Continuing study
Successful students can progress on to:
Articulation to years 2 or 3 university level study
Articulation to Year 3 Social Sciences: BA Honours Open which runs in pertnership with the Open University
