Overview
This course is most suited to those with an interest in the fields of fitness, health and exercise. The new framework has been developed to include industry recognition in the form of endorsement by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS).
On successful completion of Year Two, you'll be awarded the Level 3 Personal Trainer accreditation.
This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise OR
- First year of HND in Fitness, Health and Exercise.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- An element of the interview process will involve paired exercise where you demonstrate an exercise of your choice to a partner, highlighting safe and effective practice. Please bring suitable indoor gym wear.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

After the course
Careers
This course will suit individuals wishing to pursue careers in sports clubs, private fitness facilities, local authorities and government sport initiatives; ranging from personal training and exercise instruction, to teaching physical education, or working within sports science.
You may also look at self-employment in fitness, exercise prescription and athletic conditioning.
Continuing Study
Successful students can progress to degree courses in related courses, including:

- BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning at Abertay University.
