  • Overview

    This course gives you the essential skills and knowledge necessary to carry out a wide range of roles in business.  The course is designed to give you a broad education of all functions of business and give you a clear understanding of the business environment. 

    The option of Business with HR has an emphasis on human resources and will equip you with the skills required to take up further study in the HR field. Your course will be delivered by our highly professional teaching staff with relevant industry experience and track record of bringing out the best in their students.

    The HND course has recently been updated to be more relevant to the needs of the industry and includes more digital and emerging technologies within the delivery.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7 (year 1) and Level 8 (year 2). 

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Two Highers at Grade C or above AND three National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above in relevant* subjects; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    * relevant subjects include English, Administration, Business Management, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Studies or a Science subject.

    Year 2 Direct Entry - HND Year 2

    • HNC Business (15 credits); OR
    • The first year of HND Business (15 credits).

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    After the course

    Careers

    The HND Business prepares you for entry to a wide range of positions in employment. Below is a small selection of those where progression is possible directly or with further study or experience:

    HR Officer/Assistant, Business Development, Project Officer, Sales Co-ordinator, Assistant Manager (various sectors), Purchasing Officer,  Business Analyst, Marketing Officer, Business Advisor,  Business Support Officer, Team Leader/Supervisor,(various sectors), Communications Officer, Business Systems Officer, Campaign Analyst, Local Authority Service.

    Continuing Study

    • During year 1 of this course, you can apply to Glasgow Caledonian University to be involved in their Pathway to BA International Business with Human Resource Management.  If successful you will join this course direct into Year 3 following the completion of your HND Business.  More information about this route will be provided at the interview.
    • Following year 2 of your HND Business you can apply for a university degree course, (year 3 entry following an HND for many degrees, though sometimes you will get year 2 entry).

    How the course is taught

    A mixture of class lecturers, group tasks and presentations.

    Assessment methods

    All but one of the units that you study are assessed on a continuous basis throughout the year.  You have one end of year exam that assesses your integrated knowledge across the course.
