Overview

This course gives you the essential skills and knowledge necessary to carry out a wide range of jobs in a range of business areas.  You'll be taught by staff with relevant industry experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. 

The course is designed to give you a broad education of all functions of business and give you a clear understanding of the business environment.  

The HND course has recently been updated to be more relevant to the needs of the industry and includes more digital and emerging technologies.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8. 

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

• HNC Business (15 credits); OR
• First year of HND Business (15 credits).

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

After the course

Careers

The HND Business prepares learners for entry to a wide range of positions in employment. Below is a small selection of those where progression is possible directly or with further study or experience:

Business Development , Project Officer, Sales Co-ordinator, Assistant Manager (various sectors), Purchasing Officer,  Business Analyst, Marketing Officer, Business Advisor,  Business Support Officer, Team Leader/Supervisor,(various sectors), Communications Officer, Business Systems Officer, Campaign Analyst, Local Authority Service.

Continuing Study

Students who complete their HND may progress to:

• Year three of BA Business at the University of the West of Scotland.
• Year three of BA (Hons) Business Management at Glasgow Caledonian University.
• Year three of BA (Hons) Risk Management at Glasgow Caledonian University.
• Year three of BA (Hons) International Business/International Business with HRM/International Business with Languages at Glasgow Caledonian University.
• Year three of BA (Hons) International Supply Chain Management.
• Advanced entry at other Scottish universities.
