Overview
The course includes both traditional and innovative practices. It will give you a broad visual education in contemporary art practice. You'll develop your skills in a range of specialist disciplines and increase your awareness and knowledge of conceptual thinking. It also offers an opportunity to develop individual practice in relation to your own interests.
The course is taught by our highly professional teaching staff with significant fine art experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.

Students who successfully complete this course will achieve the HND Contemporary Art Practice.
The course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- HNC Fine Art (Contemporary Art Practice), or equivalent.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- On the day you'll also be asked some questions about your portfolio - Portfolio Guidance.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

- Professional Practice.
- CAP: Project.
- Exhibition of the Contemporary Art Form.
- Conceptual Development and Production.
- Mixed Media Development and Production.
- Life Drawing Portfolio.
- Developmental Drawing Portfolio.
- Art and Design: Personal Investigation.
- Graded Unit 2.
After the course
Careers
Work as an independent exhibiting artist, depending on the quality of your work, motivation and self-promotion skills. The experience of the HND can also help to prepare you for working in other roles within the creative industries such as curation or community arts.
Continuing Study
Students who complete their HND can progress to:
- BA (Hons) Contemporary Art Practice at City of Glasgow College.
- Other art school or university degree courses (2nd or 3rd year entry).
