Overview

This is a challenging course where you take part in an exciting and comprehensive programme of design and specialist craft studies. The course is project-based, and you’ll explore your own creativity and prepare for the demands of a degree course or working as an independent maker. Projects concentrate on designing, exploring and making, drawing and personal expression.

This course could provide you with a variety of work suitable for a portfolio or enable you to further your skills in a specific discipline with an emphasis on applied art techniques in Art Glass, Applied Ceramics, Jewellery, Textiles and Performance Costume. Although we teach making skills on the course, it’s an advantage to have experience in working in 3D and also making skills in different media. Our blended learning model means there will be smaller groups of focused face to face classes on campus, with classes coming together for online learning. There is a strong ethos of ethical making and sustainability, which will be embedded into your learning.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7. 

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

• HNC Applied Arts.

Additional selection requirements

• You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
• You'll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Continuing Study

• You can apply for the 1st or 2nd year at various art schools.
• There's an option for you to progress to third year of Contemporary Art Practice BA Hons at City of Glasgow College.
