    This course will provide you with a broad range of office-based skills and knowledge required for a career in office administration. You'll develop specialist skills in admin and IT, desktop publishing, communication, research and planning.

    Your course will be delivered by our highly professional teaching staff with significant experience in office administration and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.

    The course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8. 

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Successful completion of HNC Administration and Information Technology group award with a minimum of 13 credits and a graded unit of B grade or higher.

    The exception to this would be students who've only had the opportunity to study 12 credits as part-time students.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    What you study

    You'll study:

    • Office management.
    • ICT in business.
    • Developing the individual within a team.
    • Core IT units - advanced word processing, advanced spreadsheets, advanced databases, presentation skills.

    There are two graded units within the course, one project-based and one exam based.

    After the course

    Careers

    This course prepares you for a career as a Personal Assistant or Administrator in both the public and private sector. The HND can provide progression into employment in a general admin role within small to medium enterprises. It'll also provide opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge required for more specialist posts demanded by larger organisations.

    The qualification will allow you to develop:

    • Technical and administrative knowledge relevant to current practice.
    • Interpersonal skills relevant to an administrative role.
    • Personal effectiveness.
    • Communication.
    • Presentation techniques.

    Continuing Study

    Successful students can progress on to:

    • Direct entry to third year of relevant degree courses which might include Business/Management, Technology and Enterprise courses.
    • Entry to year one or year two of a range of degrees in other disciplines.

    The year of entry will depend on the university and the subject chosen.
