  • Overview

The HNC Mechatronics Industrial Automation Engineering with Robotics is a course that brings together the main aspects of today’s modern process and engineering control systems requirements. The course looks at and develops your understanding of automated and robotic systems through electrical, mechanical and electronic units showing how these individual engineering areas are interfaced together with computing software to form interactive and complex production systems.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Two Highers at Grade C or above including Mathematics and Physics or Computing Science; OR
    • National Certificate Group Award in Engineering, Electronics or Electrical Engineering at SCQF level 6; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    Additional selection requirements

You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.

    After the course

    Careers

The qualification in Industrial Automation Engineering with Robotics is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment or for progression to further academic and/or professional qualifications.

    Continuing study

The qualification will provide you with a relevant mix of competencies enabling progression to employment or articulation to higher level study. The HNC in Mechatronics Group Award enables articulation to the HND Mechatronic Advanced Industrial Automation Engineering at City of Glasgow College or to part-time or full-time degree courses in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK.

    Teaching

    How the course is taught

The course will be taught in two 18 week blocks with class sessions of two hours duration. You will also be required to undertake self-study outwith timetabled class contact and arrange lab entry for additional practical activities out with timetabled class contact within course study groups.

    Assessment methods

Each unit will have a minimum of one learning outcome end of unit assessment which may also include a practical element. Some units have more than one learning outcome assessment which will be delivered within the timeframe of the unit.

You will also undertake a 1 credit HNC Mechatronic Graded Unit at SCQF level 7. This will be in the form of a 3 hour written examination normally at the end of May of each year.

    Additional Information
