Overview
This course will give you a qualification in Fashion Make-up. It contains units that provide underpinning knowledge and skills required to work within Fashion make-up, cosmetic and creative industries. Fashion make-up takes cognisance of the growth and diversity within the fashion make-up industry and will provide you with an industry recognised qualification and skills to enable you to work effectively within this fast-paced environment.
You will be taught by a team of industry experts with a wealth of industry experience and expertise in make-up counters, film, theatre and fashion photoshoots. Their expertise will ensure your learning is at the centre of their teaching practice.
An essential aspect of the course is working in industry alongside, meeting and observing Make-up Artists working in the field. You may have the opportunity to take part in competitions and industry shows allowing you to flourish as a student of City of Glasgow College.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- National Qualification at SCQF level 6 Make-Up Artistry; OR
- SCQF level 6 or SVQ level 3 Ladies Hairdressing; OR
- NCGA level 6 in Beauty Care; OR
- Two Highers at Grade C or above; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.
- There will also be a basic practical skills test and you will be given the opportunity to show the team some examples of your work.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
What you study
You'll study the following core units:-
- Essential Make-up Skills.
- Fashion Make-up: Current Fashion and Classic Make-up Skills.
- Fashion Make-up: Runway and Editorial Make-up and Hair Skills.
- Work Placement.
- Fashion Make-up: Presentation and Promotional Skills.
- Fashion Make-up: Hairdressing Techniques.
- Fashion Make-up: Make-up and Hairstyling for a Photoshoot.
Additional units will be included to make up the full group award to gain your qualification at HNC Level.
After the course
Careers
You may consider career prospects in fashion Make up such as; Cosmetic Consultant, Freelance Make-up Artist, Session Stylist, Social Media Blogger, Cosmetic Company Ambassador, Sales Representative or Demonstrator.
Continuing Study
Students can progress to HND Make-up Artistry TV, Film and Theatre (SCQF Level 8).
Teaching
How the course is taught
The course is taught over two 18 week semesters. You will be continually assessed throughout the course.
Assessment methods
There will be a variety of assessment methods used including practical, closed book and portfolio building.
Additional Information
Materials
You are required to supply your own kit. The college will supply aspects of materials with regards to hair pieces, wigs and special effect products. In addition, you are expected to supply your own stationery. More information will be given at interview.
Dress code
Black dress code, no nail extensions and of a professional standard.
