    HNC Cyber Security is an SCQF Level 7 course incorporating the National Progression Award (NPA) in Cyber Security which aims to give students a fundamental understanding of how to protect networks, IT systems and individuals against Cyber-attacks and Cyber threats. 

    Cyber security is one of the fastest evolving areas within business and government today as online systems make up the foundations of the digitally-enabled economy. Employment in the area of Cyber security is predicted to increase fivefold in the next two years and there is already a shortage of people who are able to work in this field.

    This course provides students with the essential skills and knowledge to prepare for further study or employment in this rapidly developing area.

    The course is delivered by lecturers with a wide range of industry experience.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • One Higher at Grade C or above in a relevant subject* AND two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR
    • NQ Cyber-Security; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    * Relevant subjects include Business Studies, Chemistry, Computing, English, History, Information Systems, Mathematics or Physics.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    We adopt a student centred approach to learning where your tutors will facilitate your learning and comprehension through individual and group work. Your theory and knowledge will be backed up with lots of hands-on practical experience gained in our dedicated computing labs in our new campus. All our teaching materials are available through our ‘MyCity’ online learning environment.
