  • Overview

    This course combines the knowledge, theory and practice you need to work in the early years sector. It is suitable for those aiming to work within early years, and for those already employed in sector looking for a formal qualification or to upskill. The course is approved by the Scottish Social Services Council as a suitable qualification for registration as a Child Development Officer.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7. 

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Two Highers at Grade C or above including English; OR
    • NPA Health & Social Care: Children & Young People plus 1 Higher; OR
    • NC Level 6 Higher Early Education & Childcare; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
    • You'll also need to provide a reference from your most recent educational provider (if you're in education) or employer.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    Placement

    Students will undertake a minimum of 60 days placement within an early years setting throughout their HNC studies.
